FAQ's

What are the chalet features?

The Chalet is fully equipped with everything you need to enjoy your stay.

All the comforts of home are here waiting for you including a fully-equipped gourmet kitchen with coffee, teas, sugar and spices, fridge and freezer with ice maker and filtered water dispenser, safe induction stove, coffee maker, kettle, blender, dishwasher, cookware, and all utensils. Bath towels, hand towels, and soaps are awaiting your use.

The kitchen features an island built for up to six people to enjoy a meal, work on your computer, or relax with the people in the attached great room. A see-through, indoor-outdoor fireplace adds a comfortable ambiance for both the great room with comfortable couches, and the balcony overlooking the pool, yard and neighbourhood.

The exterior balcony (porch) is partly covered by the roof, allowing you to stay out of the rain, sun, or wind when you prefer, and features a table and chairs for all guests, as well as a new Napoleon barbecue with utensils for use at any time of year.

Floors are kept warm and cozy with in-floor heating from late fall until spring. An additional heat pump system equipped with wall-mounted heating/cooling cassettes in each of the bedrooms and great room provide additional heat when required in the winter, and rapid cooling on hot summer days.

Bottom-up window shades provide privacy while letting lots of light in and maintain a view of the forested neighbourhood. The bedrooms feature black-out curtains for sleeping. Ceiling fans are located in the great room and both bedrooms.

What are the accommodations like?

In each of the two bedrooms there is one super comfortable queen-sized bed with plenty of pillows and top-quality linens.  If you need to accommodate an additional person (for a total of up to five), we can provide a single mattress and bedding to place in one of the bedrooms at an additional cost of $50 per night.  Guests often comment on how comfortable the beds are and how well they slept!

Ceiling fans provide gentle air circulation, and an air exchanger keeps the air fresh while maintaining energy efficiency.

The Jack & Jill bathroom is directly accessible from both bedrooms, and features a 16" rain-can shower head directly overhead and shower bar on the wall with removable head. A small separate powder room is accessible directly from the great room.

All floors are heated from November to April to keep your feet and body comfortable in winter, with additional quick heat and AC to set the temperature as you prefer all year.  There is a see-through fireplace set into a stone accent wall in the great room for both heat and ambiance from fall until spring.  Warm, cozy, dimmable lighting is tastefully arranged throughout the Chalet.

The pool is open from May until October and heated to around 80 degrees F. / 27 degrees C. from late June until Labour Day weekend for your enjoyment.  A sandy beach, park and playground on beautiful Lake Simcoe are just a two minute walk away, as are walking and biking trails.

Off the property, activities start at the nearby beach and park where you can swim, play, and relax in summer, or walk or cross-country ski on the lake when it’s frozen in winter.

Downtown Barrie is 5 km / 3 miles away. We have three bicycles which guests are welcome to use – two road bikes and a BMX – and a biking / walking path leading to Barrie around the shore of Lake Simcoe is nearby.

Barrie is the gateway to summer cottage country and winter activities.  A great variety of restaurants, grocery and liquor stores, boating, walking trails, festivals, resorts, treetop trekking and many local features and activities are just a few minutes drive away.

What do we have access to?

The Chalet is the entire second floor of this custom new building, including the porch overlooking the pool, and is exclusively yours. It’s about 1,100 square feet, (100 square meters) and includes use of the pool from May to September, parking for two cars, and the use of the laundry room downstairs.

Also on the ground floor, separate from your space, is a garage and office that we do use from time to time, as our principal house is about 80 feet / 25 meters away and on the same property. Don’t be surprised if you see us around once in a while, but we always respect your privacy. We work from home and are usually here if you need anything – just ask!
